Could Tottenham sign their own Olivier Giroud with reported target Sebastien Haller?

Premier League giants Spurs are reportedly keen to add Eintracht Frankfurt's in-form Bundesliga ace Haller to their ranks in January.

Eintracht Frankfurt are one of the most exciting teams anywhere in Europe right now and, while plenty of credit must go to the razor-sharp Ante Rebic and Luka Jovic, Sebastien Haller is the glue that holds it all together.

The former Auxerre and Utrecht striker is in the form of his life right now and has scored seven goals in eight Bundesliga starts for Adi Hutter’s high-flying Eagles. As a result, the increasing speculation suggests that Frankfurt will have a challenge on their hands hanging onto Haller in January.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine reports that goal-shy Newcastle United would love to sign the ‘supple giant’ while a thrilling Borussia Dortmund side are also keen to enhance their attack.

But interest from Tottenham Hotspur is particularly intriguing. Not just because Haller, who is valued at around £26 million, could finally end their over-reliance on Harry Kane and not just because Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign him in 2016 too (Telegraph).

Haller has been frequently likened to one Olivier Giroud over the years – a fellow France striker who shone at Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal and now plies his trade for Chelsea.

And it is not difficult to see why those comparisons have been made. Haller, like Giroud, is a target man by trade, renowned for his strength in the air and his ability to bring his teammates into the attack. But he is also a hugely technical footballer capable of moments of acrobatic brilliance a la as that infamous Giroud ‘scorpion kick’.

Overhead kicks have become Haller's trademark of late. Could he be Tottenham’s answer to a former Woolwich favourite?
