Could Ismaila Sarr pave way for Tottenham move by stunning Woolwich?
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly watched Ismaila Sarr, the Rennes winger who will face Woolwich in the Europa League today.
Woolwich will have to stop a reported Tottenham Hotspur target if they are to progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
The Gooners are set to face Ligue 1 outfit Rennes in France on Thursday afternoon in the first leg of an interesting round of 16 clash and you can imagine that Ismaila Sarr will be front and centre if the French underdogs are to cause a shock.
A jet-heeled Senegal international, the winger moved to Rennes from Metz in 2017 and has blossomed into one of the most exciting and explosive talents across the channel.
Sarr has scored nine goals and produced nine assists this season in all competitions from his role on the right wing. So with Sead Kolasinac expected to start at left-back, he could be in for a torrid evening. The Bosnian is hardly the world’s greatest defender after all.
And, just to add an element of intrigue to the occasion, Tottenham appear to have watched Sarr in action in recent months, Calciomercato reporting in the Autumn that he had caught the eye of Woolwich’s North London neighbours.
Should Sarr showcase his talents on a European stage tonight, he could spark Spurs’ interest again with the summer transfer window on the horizon. Think of this as his audition.
Tottenham still need a player capable of scoring goals to take the pressure off Harry Kane and Sarr could be exactly that man.
