Spurs eyeing emotional German U21 player

This season Tottenham and Atletico Madrid have been scouting Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Nadiem Amiri. german reports also suggest Liverpool are interested in him to.

The 19-years-old (20 in October) right-footed midfielder, who can also play in either wide attacking role, is German born and under contract to Hoffenheim until 2018. He helped them to a 15th placed finish in the Bundesliga with 4 goals and 4 assists in 25 appearances, 1,459 minutes, the equivalent of 16.21 full games. The German Under-21 international netted against Borussia Monchengladbach (4th), Mainz 05 (6th), Ingolstadt (11th) and Eintracht Frankfurt (16th) with assists against Hertha Berlin (7th), Stuttgart (17th) and two against Borussia Monchengladbach (4th).

Statistically he had a hand in more goals than all but one Hoffenheim player, not bad for a player making his Bundesliga debut this season, a debut that yielded 1 goal and 2 assists against the side who finished the season in 4th place and looked in total control of the game until his arrival. His coach for the last season Huub Stevens, a former Dutch footballer, said he was their 'only creative midfielder this season'.

Naturally Hoffenheim are keen to keep him, his value will only rise and they'll make more profit if they develop him further themselves. He will get plenty of starts in a poor side whereas he would struggle to make a start in the Premier League perhaps with Christian Eriksen or Erik Lamela in his way.

The German media describe him as a street footballer, strong and brave and his coach has given him liscence to do what he wants in games.

The next step is how he develops, will he be a player who does his own thing and doesn't take instruction well, like Andros Townsend, or will he be able to express himself within a system role like Christian Eriksen can. His coach reveals he is an emotional player "we know he lives by his emotions" so his career could go either way. Technically excellent with good dribbling skills, his mental ability to buckle down and make himself consistent will be the next hurdle. Until then he will flit in and out of games and frustrate. Plenty of time ahead of him though to develop.

Woolwich & Tottenham eyeing move for Nadiem Amiri

Woolwich and Spurs interested in Amiri

According to German outlet Bild, both Tottenham and Woolwich are interested in signing Hoffenheim midfielder, Nadiem Amiri.

The 22-year-old Amiri has spent all of his senior career with the German side.

Amiri has played 101 games across all competitions for Hoffenheim, in which he has scored 10 and assisted 11.

The German is naturally an attacking midfielder. However, he can also play as a centre mid or on the left and right-hand side of midfield.

The 2017/18 season saw Amiri play 33 games for Hoffenheim, scoring four and assisting three.

Unfortunately, Amiri suffered an injury in August of 2018 that has meant the midfielder has yet to make an appearance for Hoffenheim in the 2018/19 campaign.

But that has reportedly not deterred Spurs and Woolwich from wanting to sign Amiri who would be able to sign him in the summer for just £15.1m due to a clause in his contract.

Rams*y and Dembele replacements?
It is no surprise that both Woolwich and Tottenham are being linked with central midfielders.

For Woolwich, they are set to lose Aaron Rams*y in July when his contract expires after both parties failed to agree on a new deal.

As a result, the Gooners may well see Amiri as the Welshman’s replacement.

As for Tottenham, they are likely to lose Belgium centre mid, Mousa Dembele in the summer.

Dembele like Rams*y is out of contract in July of 2019.

Dembele is also now 31 years of age, which means it is unlikely he will be offered a new deal in the summer.
